From Olden town
centre, take the road leading to the Briksdal Glacier and
Briksdalsbre Fjellstove at the end of the road, 24 km into the
Oldedalen valley - a lush, idyllic valley with lakes, rivers,
waterfalls and huge mountains. There is a view south towards the
Melkevoll Glacier, an arm of the Jostedal Glacier, but the
Briksdal Glacier itself lies to the east and cannot be seen from
the road until you arrive at Briksdalen. Turn left at Melkevoll
Bretun and drive for another 500m. Here you will find a car park
for cars and buses next to Briksdalsbre Fjellstove, which has a
café, souvenir shop, Briksdal Breføring (glacier and mountain
guiding company) and trips to the glacier with our new "Troll
Car`s."
You can either walk the last 3km from Briksdalsbre Fjellstove up
to the Briksdal Glacier or you can join the "Troll" car taxi
(book in plenty of time). When you are almost at the edge of the
glacier, you enter the Jostedal Glacier National Park and can
either simply enjoy the sight of this gigantic glacier or join a
glacier trip onto the blue ice.
